The 2008 session of Sunflower Girls State will open on June 1st, 2008 and will close on June 6th, 2008.  The fee for this years session will be $250.00 per delegate.  All or any fraction thereof may be derived from American Legion Post, American Legion Auxiliary Units, Civic organizations, businesses, clubs, or individuals in the community, but it must be understood that The American Legion Auxiliary is the sponsor no matter the source of the fee.

Once the delegate fee is received by the Secretary of Sunflower Girls State, a registration card will be sent to the contact person to be filled out by the delegate and returned to the Secretary prior to May 15, 2008.  It is important that this registration card be returned, as this is the confirmation for attending Sunflower Girls State.  Beginning April 15th the delegate packet will be available for printing by clicking on the button labeled "2008 Packet" on the home page. 

Upon arriving on the campus of the University of Kansas the delegates week of Sunflower Girls State begins.

Sunday - June 1, 2008
  • Registration, move into rooms, meet new friends

  • City meetings and formation of City governments

  • Opening Session in the Lied Center

  • Formation of Political Parties

  • Make campaign materials

Monday - June 2, 2008
  • Bar Exam

  • File petition for office

  • Campaign for elective office

  • Work on City Government problems

Tuesday - June 3, 2008
  • Primary Election

  • Lawyer's Oath

  • Judicial Review/Mock Trial

  • Governor candidates & Lt. Governor candidates interviews

  • Whistle Stops

Wednesday - June 4, 2008
  • Party Rallies

  • General Election

  • City Government Problem

  • Talent Night

Thursday - June 5, 2008
  • City, County, & State Governments in Session

  • County Government Problem

  • Inaugural

During the week, the delegates will be addressed by many excellent speakers, many of whom are the elected officials of the State of Kansas. 

While visiting Topeka, the elected officials of Sunflower Girls State will have the opportunity to visit the office of their respective State Official.  The Sunflower Girls State Senate and House of Representatives will hold session in the chambers of the Kansas Senate and Kansas House of Representatives.

The delegates will be released to return home at approximately 4:30 P.M. on Friday, June 6th.

Additional Information about Sunflower Girls State has been sent to all Auxiliary Units and High Schools throughout the State of Kansas in a booklet with a peach cover titled "Sunflower Girls State".
