Delegates traveled to Topeka to the State Capitol and Shawnee County Courthouse. Some SGS elected officials were able to meet with their elected counterparts if available.

KS Attorney General Derek Schmidt discussed the concept of letting those that work with you share in the victory but if you lead them to failure accept that responsibility. The 2018 Inaugural Ceremony marked the beginning of the term for the elected state officials.

A much anticipated moment was the announcement of the General Election!

The Honorable Judge Pierron swears in the lawyers. Assistant Director Lindsay Maudlin presents Blue Star Banners to staff, counselors, and delegates who have immediate family members currently serving. Delegates learned about pocket flags and others ways to honor our veterans and and active military.

[Senator Bowers] communicated how important she believes it is for women to make connections and support each other. Being a Sunflower Girls' State Alumni she is an advocate for taking advantage of and saying "yes" to opportunities afforded to you. She expressed that her time at SGS had a great impact on her career and we're glad that she has been willing to give her time to us over the years.

Dr. Barbara Ballard has been visiting us for almost two decades and we are always grateful for her commitment and passion for our program. A representative from the city of Apache expressed that Dr. Ballard made her feel like she could "do it all!"

We look forward to Sunday and welcoming Delegates to the 76th Session of American Legion Auxiliary Sunflower Girls State! We have spent the year preparing for session and we have a busy and exciting week planned.
