Suspenseful Sunday was a success! Check-in began promptly at noon and we were soon flooded with delegates and their families. It's a stressful but exciting time; we saw nerves, tears, and a lot of excitement for the week ahead!
Governor Grace Hatesohl opened the 76th Session of American Legion Auxiliary Sunflower Girls State where Dr. Barbara Ballard gave the Welcome Address. Her fire and enthusiasm really set the tone for our week! Dr. Ballard has been visiting us for almost two decades and we are always grateful for her commitment and passion for our program. A representative from the city of Apache expressed that Dr. Ballard made her feel like she could "do it all!"
Political parties met for their first party caucuses to prepare for petition signing. When asked to comment, Federalist Party Leader Stacy Edwards stated, "I was particularly impressed with this crop of Federalists. Their passion and determination will carry the day. I'm sure of it. Everyone looks fabulous in blue!"
City meetings included deciding on their form of local government and electing city officials and precinct people, writing city ordinances, and according to Apache Counselor, infectious laughter.
We are so glad to be here for another week and thrilled that this group of girls is showing us passion, pride, and enthusiasm.
